Lancers’ streak hits four to move into division lead

The University of Windsor Lancers men’s hockey team won its fourth-straight game with a 6-2 win over the Western Mustangs in OUA action at the Capri Complex on Friday.

Defenceman Kody Gagnon had two goals and an assist for the Lancers (11-2-0-1) while Ryan Shaw also chipped in with a pair of goals against the Mustangs (55-2-0).

Alex Friesen and Brennan Feasey each had a goal and an assist for the Lancers while John Wesley, Sean Olson and Ian Parker each picked up a pair of assists.

Goalie Jon Reinhart made 24 saves for the Lancers, who moved one-point up on idle Toronto for first place in the West Division.

AA BASKETBALL

The No. 2-seeded Kennedy Clippers moved into quarter-final play late Friday with a 62-40 win over No. 15 Sault Ste. Marie Superior Heights at the OFSAA girls’ AA basketball championsh­ip in Kingsville.

Alisha Murray and Maddy Bishop each had 20 points for the Clippers and Tsarah Langlois finished with 15 points. Kennedy faced No. 7 St. Catharines Eden in the quarter-finals looking for a spot in Saturday’s medal round.

The host Kingsville Cavaliers advanced to the consolatio­n semifinals on Saturday after being knocked out of the championsh­ip draw earlier on Friday.

The No. 11-seeded Cavaliers fell 53-33 to No. 6 Timmins Theriault, which sent the team to the consolatio­n round.

There, Kingsville took down No. 18 Henry Carr by a score of 62-33 behind Chelsea Brush’s 17-point performanc­e to move into the consolatio­n semifinals on Saturday against No. 10 Birchmount Park.

A BASKETBALL

The Lajeunesse Royals rolled into the medal round at the OFSAA girls’ A basketball championsh­ip in Welland.

The No. 2-seeded Royals, who won the silver medal a year ago, moved into the semifinals on Saturday with a 53-28 win over No. 10 Hamilton Guido de Bres in quarter-final play.

Jamila Christian had 19 points, Olivia Scott added 14 points and Ashanti Christian finished with 11 points for the Royals.

Earlier in the day, Lajeunesse defeated No. 15 Whitby Saint-charles-garnier 41-12 to advance to quarter-finals behind Jamilah Christian’s 17-point performanc­e.

AA VOLLEYBALL

The No. 3-seeded Essex Red Raiders’ hopes for a medal came to an end in the quarter-finals on Friday at the OFSAA boys’ AA volleyball championsh­ip in Stratford.

Essex lost 2-1 to No. 9 Sudbury Lasalle by scores of 23-25, 25-21 and 15-13 and that placed the team second in its pool and forced the club to play No. 1-seeded St. Catharines Eden in the quarter-finals.

Eden took the match in four tough games with Essex falling 3-1 by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 1725 and 25-16.

A VOLLEYBALL

The Lajeunesse Royals came up short in the team’s bid for a quarter-final spot at the OFSAA boys’ A volleyball championsh­ip in Pain Court.

The No. 14-seeded Royals split a pair of games on Friday to finish 2-2 in pool play, which left the club third in its five-team pool.

Only the top two teams in each pool advance into the quarter-finals.

Lajeunesse beat No. 19 Almaguin Highland 2-0 by scores of 2522 and 25-15, but fell 2-0 to No. 9 Quinte Christian by scores of 25-13 and 25-23.
