Public library offers amnesty for overdue fines and books to mark 125th anniversary

- TREVOR WILHELM

The Windsor Public Library is in a giving mood.

To celebrate its 125 anniversary, and get in the Christmas spirit, the library is offering amnesty in December for customers with overdue fines and delinquent accounts.

The only catch is you might have to endure library representatives barking dog puns at you.

“With the holiday season fast approaching, do you want to get out of the doghouse?” the library said in a media release.

“Do you want the library to stop hounding you about overdue materials? If so, return all overdue materials between Dec. 4 and 31, and Windsor Public Library will throw you a bone — we’ll waive your fines, no ifs ands or woofs!”

The library celebrates 125 years on Dec. 4. Special events and displays are planned throughout the month, highlighted by the monthlong amnesty program.

All branches will feature displays chronicling the library’s history with photographs, newspapers, and other items from Windsor’s Community Archive.

There will also be customer appreciation events in conjunction with the fines amnesty.

The library will waive fines for returned materials and issue new cards if necessary.

Customers who don’t have outstanding materials but still have fines on their accounts can contact the library to have the fees waived and their accounts unblocked.

“We want customers to return overdue materials. We want to welcome back customers who would like to visit but are reticent to do so because of the barrier presented by fines owing. Materials returned can then be made available for loan to other members of the community.

“Our 125th anniversary is an important milestone and should be marked by an event that positively impacts the community and is in keeping with 125 years of service to the Windsor community.”

The library is also willing to listen to people with damaged or lost materials. You can call 519-2556770 or email customerservice@ windsorpubliclibrary.com with details about your situation.
