Two people are facing charges after Windsor police spotted a stolen vehicle that had its colour changed from green to white.

Police said keen-eyed officers became suspicious of the automobile — a Nissan — because its front licence plate didn’t match its rear licence plate, and it was in a parking lot during early morning hours with two people inside.

The officers were on patrol on Monday around 3:30 a.m. when they noticed the vehicle in the area of Tecumseh Road East and

Mcdougall Street.

A woman was in the driver’s seat and a man was in the passenger seat. Through investigation, the officers learned that the Nissan had been reported stolen as a green vehicle on Oct. 22 from the 3300 block of St. Etienne Boulevard.

Police arrested both of the vehicle’s occupants.

The woman was found to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl and identification that didn’t belong to her.

Maureen Mooney, 42, of Windsor, faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime (value exceeding $5,000), taking an automobile without consent, possession of a controlled substance (two counts), unlawful possession of identity documents (two counts), breach of probation (two counts), and breach of recognizance.

Kyle Crawford, 31, of Windsor, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime (value exceeding $5,000) and taking an automobile without consent.

Crawford was previously arrested by Windsor police in relation to a stolen vehicle in January 2018.
