Manufacturing investment
Five area auto-related and manufacturing companies will receive an overall total investment of more than $2 million from the Ontario government, the provincial Tories announced during a visit to the Windsor area on Tuesday.
Vic Fedeli, minister of economic development, job creation and trade, revealed the new funding during a stop at the Precision Stamping Group facility in Lakeshore.
“Today’s announcement is another example of our government’s continued commitment to supporting key Ontario sectors like automotive and manufacturing in regional and rural communities,” he said of financial support from the Southwestern Ontario Development
Fund.
“Our government is supporting an environment where businesses can expand and create good jobs.”
Overall, the provincial government’s investment will create 194 new jobs and help retain another 199 jobs in the automotive and manufacturing sectors, according to Fedeli.
The government created the Southwestern Ontario program to support eligible small- and medium-sized businesses invest in new equipment and training to expand operations.
Precision Stamping will be the largest recipient. The company will receive $813,750 to invest in innovative technology to assist in developing “the next generation of high-strength steel products” that will help make vehicles lighter and more fuel-efficient. The project is expected to create 20 jobs and be completed by August 2021.
APAG Elektronik Corp., which opened in Windsor last year, will receive $499,541 to help the company further develop its first production plant in North America. The investment will help add equipment to create the company’s production line, plus enhance research.
The plant is expected to create 134 new jobs with a focus on lighting and electronic control units for cars.
Universal Fabricating Inc. will receive $295,462 to help the company expand its building by 21,600 square feet — doubling in size — to allow the company to install new equipment and boost production.
The company is a fabricated metal products manufacturer serving largely greenhouse and automotive industries. The funding is expected to support the creation of 13 new jobs.
Global Pack Packaging Solutions Inc. will receive $292,875 from the development fund for the company to expand its facility where it manufactures rigid plastic packaging products from consumer recycled plastic.
The company will utilize the funds for new automated manufacturing equipment to triple its production capacity, introduce advanced processing technology and create more environmentally friendly packaging.
Global Pack Packaging Solutions provides the produce and food processing industries with recyclable packaging products and is expected to add 15 jobs.
Laval Tool & Mould Ltd. will receive $185,210 to diversify its products and services, including insulated parts for aerospace applications.
Laval Tool and Mould specializes in compressing moulds serving various industries, including the automotive and military markets, and expects to add 12 jobs with the funds.
