Local whiskies take top honours at Canadian Whisky Awards

Windsor-made whiskies and the distillery that produces them took home six major awards this month at the 10th annual Canadian Whisky Awards.

The winners included Pike Creek 21-Year-old Oloroso Cask Finish, which was named whisky of the year. Hiram Walker and Sons received distillery of the year honours for the third time in a row, and Dr. Don Livermore was named blender of the year for the second consecutiv­e year.

“To be recognized as the distillery of the year is a tremendous accolade,” said Livermore.

“From grain to glass, there is a dedicated and passionate team behind our whiskies. We all rely on each other to make sound choices and it reflects in the quality award-winning brands that we make. It’s a true honour to be part of the Hiram Walker and Corby family.”

The winners were announced Jan. 16 during the annual Victoria Whisky Festival in British Columbia. The Pike Creek 21-Year-old Oloroso Cask Finish also won for best blended whisky, and connoisseu­r whisky of the year domestic. J.P. Wiser’s Triple Barrel Rye was named sippin’ whisky of the year export.
