The suspect who was in a standoff with police for almost 12 hours on Wednesday is facing multiple charges — including assault with a weapon.

According to police, the 50-yearold Windsor man was carrying a weapon and was combative with officers when he finally exited the multi-unit dwelling on Bruce Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A Taser was used to subdue the man and he was quickly taken into custody.

Police had been containing the scene since before 7 a.m. that morning.

Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed on the residence. Investigators seized a number of items they believe were involved in the violent incident that initially brought police to the address.

No firearms were found. One of the reasons for the standoff on Wednesday was that police received word there was potentially a gun in the residence.

James Tooshkenig, 50, of Windsor, has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death, and one count of forcible confinement.

The accused and the victim know each other. Investigators believe the assault occurred in the unit of the fourplex where the accused holed up.

The adult male victim remains in hospital. His injuries are considered serious, but not life-threatening.

The major crimes branch is continuing to investigate.
