Farmers market finds new home at brewery

- MARY CATON

The Amherstburg Farmers Market has a new home for the 2020 season with this week’s announcement that it will set up shop at GL Heritage Brewing Co.

The family-run craft brewery, at 8728 Howard Ave., is just a stone’s throw from the AFM’S former location, the historic Little White Church.

The farmers’ market spent the 2019 season at Toddy Jones Park in the core of Amherstburg following the sale of the iconic church to Heritage Brewing owner Greg Grondin and his business partner Drew Coulson.

Grondin and Coulson are transforming the 108-year-old church into an Airbnb.

Celebrating its 10th year, the market will open the season Saturday, May 16 and will run every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. until sometime in October.

Each week will showcase about 20 vendors, featuring produce and crafted products from Essex County with access to fresh seasonal vegetables, fruit, herbs, freshcut flowers, fresh fish, cured and smoked fish; sausages and meats, homemade pies, cookies and breads; craft beer and wines; locally made candies, baked goods, jams and preserves; and natural-made products such as soaps, candles, pottery and artwork.

The market and GL Heritage will also host local talent and family-friendly attractions featured on different weekends.

Further information on special events will be available at facebook.com/amherstburgfarmersmarket.

Applications for vendors are now being accepted.

Anyone interested should contact Rita at acasagrande@cogeco. ca for the vendor package.
