SAINTS SOCCER

Both the St. Clair Saints women’s team and men’s team qualified for the OCAA indoor soccer championship at regionals on Tuesday.

The women’s team posted a 3-0 record to win its pool with a 4-0 win over Sault College, a 3-0 win over Centennial and 6-1 win over George Brown College.

Ryan Morneau led the offence with four goals in three games while Julia Aleartie had three and Keely Ryan and Jaclyn French two each.

The men’s team went 3-1 to finish second in its pool. St. Clair beat Mohawk 4-2, but lost 2-1 to Sheridan College. The Saints bounced back to beat Canadore College 10-1 and finished with a 7-0 win over Sault College.

Matt Montaleone had three goals and Massimo Pollard, Bastien Aguilera and Korede Adepitan finished with two goals each.

NOBLES TITLE

The Belle Rivers Nobles claimed its fourth-straight WECSSAA boys’ AA/A title on Tuesday.

The Nobles claimed the title by knocking off the Brennan Cardinals in dramatic fashion.

Brennan came into the game unbeaten, but fell 2-1 to the Nobles at the Essex Centre Sports Complex. All three goals in the game came on the power play with Gabe Barrette giving Belle River an early lead before Guy Graham tied it for Brennan and then Carter Dembinski delivering the winner.

That left both teams with a loss and forced a sudden death overtime period and Marco Sladoje scored in the second shift of the five-on-five overtime to win it for Belle River.
