Meet the houseguests

Which of these 16 contestants will win the new season of Big Brother Canada?

- LINDSEY WARD

Big Brother Canada

Season 8 debuts Wednesday, Global

Big Brother is always watching — and apparently, so are its fans. After Big Brother Canada’s two-night première, Wednesday and Thursday on Global, the show hosted by Arisa Cox will air three times a week (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) — plus, the live feeds will fire up for after-hours viewing at bigbrothercanada.ca. And if that’s not enough, Global has extended season 8 by two weeks, meaning more gruelling physical challenges, more manipulative gameplay and (obviously) more drama.

But as any devoted BBCAN fan knows, the houseguests didn’t sign up for this zany reality TV experiment in an effort to keep their privacy (or pride) intact. Here’s a quick look at the 16 Canadians set to enter the Big Brother Canada house in hopes of being the final contestant standing and walking off with $100,000 cash, $10,000 worth of groceries (the equivalent of two shopping trips these days) and a trip for two anywhere in the world.

ANGIE TACKIE

Age: 33

Hometown: Winnipeg

Fifteen roommates is nothing for this communications officer, who comes from a family of 70.

BROOKE WARNOCK

Age: 26

Hometown: Calgary

Chaos? Bring it! This social support worker has seen it all, but feels her fellow houseguests will underestimate her strength.

CAROL ROSHER

Age: 44

Hometown: Nanaimo, B.C. Outside the BBCAN house, Rosher is a “loyal, fun” disability caregiver. Inside, she says she’ll have no problem backstabbing an alliance. Ouch.

CHRISTOPHER (CHRIS) WYLLIE

Age: 28

Hometown: Markham, Ont. This brain transformation specialist has both brawn and, well, you know. And he plans to use both to sway the house in his favour.

HIRA DEOL

Age: 30

Hometown: Brampton, Ont. Deol, an accountant, is the first Canadian Sikh on the show, and intends on playing an honest game. But this IS Big Brother.

JAMAR LEE

Age: 23

Hometown: Ajax, Ont. Confident warehouse worker Lee plans to win a lot of competitions, in hopes of becoming a BBCAN “legend.”

JOHN LUKE KIEPER

Age: 22

Hometown: Kamloops, B.C. Don’t be fooled by Kieper’s laid-back ’tude. This “carefree” journalist’s strategy will be to downplay his intelligence — and outsmart everyone.

KYLE ROZENDAL

Age: 31

Hometown: Okotoks, Alta. Electrician, powerlifting champ, husband, father of two — is there anything this soul can’t do?

MADELINE DI NUNZIO

Age: 30

Hometown: Toronto

According to the press release, this substitute teacher and “bubbly animal lover plans to persevere through each competition, using her competitive mentality and never giving up.” We’ll find out what that means soon enough.

MICHEAL STUBLEY

Age: 25

Hometown: Prince George, B.C.

Special Forces Selection training isn’t a prerequisite for Big Brother Canada, but it sure sounds like it could come in handy for this military man.

MINH-LY NGUYEN-CAO

Age: 28

Hometown: Montreal

As a flight attendant, Nguyen-cao possesses one of the most valuable traits a BBCAN contestant can have: charm.

NICO VERA

Age: 31

Hometown: Toronto

Every season has a superfan, and strategic sales manager Vera is such a superfan, he puts the “super in superfan.”

RIANNE SWANSON

Age: 29

Hometown: Chetwynd, B.C. Rianne is an OR nurse and a “social butterfly,” which just sounds like a dangerous combination.

SHELDON JEAN

Age: 24

Hometown: Ottawa

This professional wrestler believes he has “the full package” to win BBCAN.

SUSANNE FUDA

Age: 24

Hometown: Vaughan, Ont.

Don’t be fooled by her size — this petite corporate recruiter is tougher than she looks.

VANESSA CLEMENTS

Age: 26

Hometown: Mill River, P.E.I. This lobster fisherman plans to “trap” (her words, not ours) her roommates by downplaying her intellectual abilities.
