Easter Seals Windsor-essex announced Wednesday it has secured a $273,000 boost through several “landmark” deals.

The charity also announced the Toldo Foundation will be the presenting sponsor of the telethon and 89x’s Mark Mckenzie will be the host.

Easter Seals, which was established in Windsor in November 1922, broke the news during a Breakfast Kick-off Celebration and media conference at the Caboto Club. The telethon committee said they have secured 14 three-year agreements and three one-year deals. The agreements amount to a total of $273,000 in monetary support, in-kind support and promotional services leading up to the organization’s 100th anniversary on Nov. 28, 2022.

“As we secured corporate partners this year, a domino effect occurred when we not only asked for a one-year commitment of support but for three-year ones,” said Easter Seals development officer Jeremy Renaud. “This proactivity was part of a work-smart program to expedite processes to grow Easter Seals’ footprint in the community leading into 2022.”

The Toldo Foundation is showing its support as the presenting sponsor with a $20,000 investment. Bell Media has agreed to a three-year deal that includes $142,000 of in-kind promotion and offering Mckenzie as the official telethon host. Bell Media, through CTV, will also produce the telecast leading into 2022.

Earlier this week, Easter Seals revealed its regional Easter Seals ambassadors for 2020 will be Alex Bondy, 5, and Brigid Kidd, 14.

Last week, around the same time it kicked off March is Easter Seals Month, the charity also announced it has a new development officer: Renaud takes over the job with 20 years of management experience in the private and public sectors and amateur sports.

“I am thrilled to be part of a great team and organization whose footprint was established here in Windsor,” said Renaud. “I look forward to creating pathways that help enable a better quality of life for Easter Seals kids in our community and beyond, while raising funds and awareness for the organization on the front line.”

The 38th annual Easter Seals Ontario (Windsor-essex) Telethon will be broadcast live on CTV from the Student Life Centre at St. Clair College on March 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
