Denim days
You probably wear denim year round, but there’s a difference between winter denim and summer denim. Mostly, it comes down to fit and weight: during the colder months, we tend to wear traditional denim in skinny- and straight-leg styles; in hotter weather,

The ’90s-meets-versace moment continues — but if you can’t afford a piece of Donatella, consider these newsprint jeans from Reformation’s latest eco-friendly denim collection, made using 60 per cent organically grown cotton and 40 per cent Tencel lyocell, a sustainable fabric. The company is also water neutral, and, for each pair of jeans, saves approximately 4,500 litres of water compared to traditional denim production processes. If you like vintage Levi’s (and who doesn’t), you’ll love Re/done, which are made in L.A. by taking Levi’s apart at the seams, then repurposing to create new jeans. This ‘Workman’ style is comfy and loose, with a hammer hook to keep things extra casual. Wear them cuffed and with sneakers and a white tee for extra cred — and don’t order red wine at lunch.

CROP IN
Kitsilano boutique Rebecca Bree’s owner, Rebecca Rawlinson, has a loyal following of Instagram fans who love her Stories. Shot mostly in her boutique’s fitting room, they’re an incredible way to get shopping inspiration while scrolling and to see outfit and fabric details, too. It’s how we discovered these cropped ‘Audrey’ jeans by Trave, a nascent L.a.-based brand founded by a South Korean engineer with an extensive vintage denim collection. Follow Rebecca’s cue and team them with metallic or white block-heeled ankle boots. Rebecca Bree, rebeccabree.com | $450 LONG AND LOOSE
The brand Ksubi has been around in some form or another since 1999 (it first started out in Sydney under the name Tsubi). It’s done a wide range of things in that time — a collab with Jeremy Scott and later, Travis Scott among them — but through most of those years, it’s been known and celebrated for its forward-thinking, supercool denim. Case in point: this high-waisted, straight-leg ‘Playback’ pair in karma, which has a nostalgic, acid wash tinge.

So technically this isn’t 100 per cent a paper-bag waist — there would need to be a tie or ribbon around the waist for that — but these jeans do gather around the midriff, and they do sit nice and high. If your denim tastes are fickle, they’re a good, fashion-forward choice from Vancouver-based Oak + Fort, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
