Suspect wanted in shooting armed and dangerous: cops

- DALSON CHEN

Windsor police are hunting for a suspect in a shooting in the area of Elliott Street East and Mercer Street on Thursday.

John Elliott, 46, of Windsor, is now being sought on charges of attempted murder after another man was found with a gunshot wound.

Police said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.

Patrol officers responded on Thursday around 10 a.m. to a report of an injured man in the 400 block of Elliott Street East.

The victim was located outside a residence. His injuries were considered life-threatening and paramedics transported him to hospital for treatment.

Windsor police contained the scene and launched an investigation. A suspect was quickly identified. Around 10:20 a.m., police received information that the suspect was possibly inside a residence at 845 Mercer St.

Police surrounded the address and members of the tactical team (emergency services unit) joined the scene.

The public was asked to avoid the area while all occupants of the building were ordered to come out.

Police said every occupant complied and was interviewed by investigators.

However, the suspect was not among them.

The area was then reopened to the public. A variety of other potential locations for the suspect was checked, but he could not be located.

Police believe the suspect, who they say was behaving in “an agitated manner,” brandished a firearm and pointed it at a number of people inside the Mercer Street address earlier Thursday morning.

Investigators say the suspect then left the Mercer Street residence and went to the residence in the 400 block of Elliott Street East, where he confronted the victim. An altercation took place there and the victim was shot.

Police are treating the case as a “targeted incident.” Police say the suspect and the victim know each other.

Elliott is as a black male, about five-foot-six and 140 pounds, police said.

He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a red T-shirt, green camouflage-print pants, and a black military-style helmet.

He is possibly using a dark coloured E-bike for transportation.

Anyone who sees this individual should call 911.

Information can be provided to investigators at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.
