Tecumseh’s Sova inks deal to join OHL’S Otters

- JIM PARKER

The Erie Otters have signed Tecumseh defenceman Spencer Sova to a standard OHL player agreement.

The Otters selected the 16-yearold Sova, who played last season for the Detroit Honeybaked minor midgets, in the first round with the eighth pick overall in this month’s OHL draft.

“It’s such an honour to sign with the Erie Otters,” the six-foot-1, 174-pound Sova said in a release. “Putting that pen to paper was truly an incredible feeling.

“I am looking forward to what is to come and am committed to doing my absolute best for my teammates, the organization and fans.”

WILLSON OFFICIAL

The Seattle Seahawks have finally made the re-signing of Lasalle tight end Luke Willson official.

A fifth-round pick by Seattle in 2013, Willson won a Super Bowl title in his first season with the club. He signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions in 2018 and inked with the Oakland Raiders in 2019, but was cut near the end of training camp and eventually signed again with the Seahawks.

The six-foot-five, 255-pound Willson made seven starts with the club in eight games last season and had eight catches for 79 yards.

The 30-year-old Willson announced his return to the team more than a month ago on Twitter, but the official announcement was delayed because of the impact of the COVID-18 pandemic.

STEVENSON’S CHOICE

Defenceman Thomas Stevenson, who finished his junior career with the Windsor Spitfires this season, will play hockey for the Queen’s Golden Gaels in the 2020-21 OUA season.

A 10th-round pick by the Spitfires in 2015, the six-foot-three, 200-pound Stevenson appeared in 188 career games for the team while posting seven goals and 34 points.

“Queen’s feels like the right fit,” the 20-year-old Stevenson said in a release. “The location, size of the school, academics and a great hockey program.”

CORCORAN MVP

The Windsor Spitfires named defenceman Connor Corcoran the team’s player of the year for the 2019-20 season.

The 19-year-old Corcoran was a second-round pick by the Spitfires in 2016 and a fifth-round pick by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2018 NHL draft.

He was fourth in team scoring this season and finished among the OHL’S top 10 scorers on defence with 19 goals and 54 points in 62 games.
