New ‘COVID-19 recovery’ rate for time-of-use hydro customers
Ontario has introduced a new “COVID-19 recovery rate” for all time-of-use electricity customers.
The new rate of 12.8 cents/kwh started June 1 and will be in place until Oct. 31. It will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines said the fixed cost, intended to help “restart the economy,” applies to all households, farms and small businesses who pay time-of-use rates.
Enwin Utilities said in a media release that it’s customer service department is available during business hours to answer questions, help people with payments and address other concerns.
“We recognize that many of our customers continue to struggle during this pandemic period,” said president and CEO Helga Reidel. “Our billing and credit staff have been working very hard to help, and we encourage customers to keep phoning in if they need us. We will continue do our best for them, as the economy recovers.”
The province previously implemented a moratorium on disconnections for residential and small business customers. The Windsor Utilities Commission authorized a similar moratorium for residential water customers. WUC and Enwin also previously approved a hold on interest charges and penalties until June 30.
“Our customers are at the centre of all we do,” said Reidel. “These measures are only some of the ways we have been helping customers during the pandemic. Our crews have also remained on the front line, throughout COVID-19, ensuring both water and electricity services continued without disruption.”
