Windsor woman feels ‘fortunate’ with $100K OLGC crossword win

- TAYLOR CAMPBELL

Lucille Soulliere is looking forward to debt-free living.

The 74-year-old Windsor woman who recently won $100,000 from a scratch game told the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation that she plans to pay her bills, put some of her newly found wealth aside for a vacation, and live without debt.

“I feel good,” she said. “Having never won before, it’s hard to accept, but I feel very fortunate.”

Soulliere, a grandmother and retired automotive assembler, uncovered her win at home while her husband was resting.

“I woke my husband up and asked him to check the ticket for me — but he looked at me like I was crazy so I told him to go back to sleep, and then I went to the store to validate my ticket,” she said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her cheque.

According to a news release from OLG on Wednesday, Soulliere scanned her ticket several times using the ticket checker before she brought it to the clerk to scan at the lottery terminal.

“Another customer said, ‘I think you won $100,’ and I said, ‘I think it’s a little more than that,’” Soulliere said.

Some of the words Soulliere revealed when scratching her Instant Crossword Tripler were “dozen,” “lease,” and “spa.” She purchased the winning ticket at Stop 42 on County Road 42 in Windsor.

The OLG Prize Centre in Toronto is now accepting in-person prize claim appointments for winning-ticket holders of $10,000 or more. Appointments for prizes of this value will be granted if requested, OLG says, but prizes up to $49,999.90 do not have to be claimed in-person and customers are encouraged to mail in such claims when possible.
