Hospital not just for Windsor residents

-

County residents are not only nearly 50 per cent of those who are to be served by this regional hospital, but are also paying for close to 50 per cent of Windsor and Essex County's share of the costs. — Barbara Cunningham

Re: Guest column: Hospital location not best choice for community, by Sarah Cipkar, Nov. 7

I can't believe that opponents of the location of our new regional hospital are still ignoring the county and speaking as if this were simply a Windsor hospital.

The latest is Sarah Cipkar, who is clearly well-educated enough to know that county residents are not only nearly 50 per cent of those who are to be served by this regional hospital, but are also paying for close to 50 per cent of Windsor and Essex County's share of the costs.

Why did she not address this obvious issue? County residents do matter.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I invite all those against the County Road 42 and 9th Concession location to take a good close look at a county map and pinpoint this location.

You will see that it is closer to the farthest reaches of Windsor compared to most of the county. Barbara Cunningham, Windsor

Decision made, time to move on

Re: Guest column: Hospital location not best choice for community, by Sarah Cipkar, Nov. 7

To answer Ms. Cipkar's question “For whom is the hospital being built?” I would reply “for all of the residents of Windsor and Essex County.”

Again, a letter in opposition of locating the new hospital on County Road 42 has ignored those of us who live in the county.

It seems no one mentions there are seniors and those with mobility and financial challenges living in the county — not just in downtown Windsor.

We are paying our share, therefore, it's only fair the location should be accessible to everyone.

This is a hospital — not the saviour of the downtown core.

There have been many opportunities for everyone to voice their opinions on where the new hospital should be located and the decision has been made. Time to move on.

Mayor, council have not done their job

Now that the mayor has convinced city council into supporting the proposed hospital plan, I feel someone locally will next be asked to give up their seat in the provincial legislature.

In order to receive any government funding of this size, I believe a region must supply a solid plan or provide political advantage. The flawed plan has not been changed.

So, who would the mayor or city council like to see sacrificed: Taras Natyshak, Percy Hatfield or Lisa Gretzky? Has any of these individuals been told that one of them must lose in 2022 (and be replaced by a member in government)?

I think we will all be sitting around until the next provincial election because the mayor, city council and Windsor Regional Hospital haven't got the job done.

Autopsy provided no answers

I watched for 14 months the terrible journey of a healthy, small-framed woman of 63 years who endured enormous pain and weight loss until she took her last breath at the hospital's ICU.

It began when her lower legs started to swell with intermittent pain shooting up her torso. Her family doctor prescribed pressure socks, plus blood tests and ultrasound to check for blood clots and check the bumps forming on her body.

All the tests came back negative so appointments with a neurologist and a doctor of internal medicine were made months later and also a dermatologist appointment. All the blood tests, a molecular test checking for cancer and CT scan came back negative with no followup appointments.

She continued to get worse, her weight now 85 pounds on the doctor's scale. I was left wishing they would think outside the box because all her blood tests have been negative.
