Although Windsor police have seized a van matching the description of a vehicle that struck and killed a child last weekend, investigators still want residents to review their surveillance footage for more evidence.

In a news release on Friday, police said they could not confirm whether or not a vehicle seized from the 2700 block of Chandler Road the day before was involved in the fatal hit-and-run on Nov. 15.

“Further investigation is required,” the release said. “As such, it is important the community understands the importance of continuing the search for further surveillance and to continue providing any information they (feel may) be related to the incident.”

Police remind the public of the “time-sensitive nature” of some video surveillance systems, and request residents — including mechanics, body shops, parts stores, and drive-thru or self-service car washes — review their footage “as soon as possible” and report any findings to police “immediately.”

Following the collision at 8:45 p.m. last Sunday in the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Haig Avenue, police launched an investigation to find the vehicle and driver.

Since then, police have released photos of the suspect vehicle, a silver minivan, taken from surveillance footage, as well as a written description. Police asked residents to review personal and business surveillance footage taken in the area bound by Lauzon Road/parkway to the east, Drouillard Road to the west, Riverside Drive East to the north, and Tecumseh Road East to the south — specifically, footage recorded from “at least” between 8 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.

“We appreciate the assistance from the community and media in relation to this incident and are asking for your continued support as we continue to investigate,” police said Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-2588477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
