Changes to plan need to be divulged

-

Windsor's city council recently voted again in support of the new megahospital. Was this not a done deal five years ago? Why was it necessary for WEEDC to spend $270,000 for an ad campaign to support this done deal?

Climate change is an issue that we must address. Yet, the mayor seems to be supporting urban sprawl at any cost.

What will the infrastructure costs actually be?

In 2015, the estimate for roads and sewers related to the new hospital area was $220 million. This did not include upgrades needed to be made by Enwin Utilities.

The planned bus routes were estimated to be $2 million. Have any of these costs escalated? The hospital plan itself has also changed.

Originally, Met campus was to be demolished and the clean land site was to be traded to the city in exchange for the Grace site. On the Grace site, a UCC was to be built.

But then the health ministry suggested using the existing facilities at the Ouellette campus might be a better alternative.

The Grace site is now a proposed housing development.

The total expenditure for downtown was to be $400 million. How much of this will now be spent in lieu of the change of plans. What happens to the Met site now?

In the interest of openness and transparency, the planning committee should reveal their evolving proposal.

I feel it would be in their best interests to divulge their plans to the community to gain support. Or is it?
