Grateful to all who helped after fall

-

I recently went to Tim Hortons near the intersection of Ouellette Avenue and Shepherd Street.

I got couple of teas and started to cross Ouellette around 1:30 p.m.

I stepped off the sidewalk, but started to fall and in trying to correct myself only made it worse and down I went. I ended up flat on my face in the middle of Ouellette.

My son who was with me was freaking out, trying to get me up. He was afraid we were going to get run over.

But then it seemed everyone from everywhere came running to help me — old and young.

There was a lady that had a tooth pulled just minutes earlier. There was staff and customers from inside Tim's, others from the drive-thru.

A young lady from the drive-thru saw my drinks all over the road and bought me another.

I asked them did my fall at least look graceful? People gave me 10s across the board.

I was asked if I wanted an ambulance, while others never left my side. Included was an older, tiny little lady.

I don't know how to thank all of these people, but it definitely shows me how Canadians can be. All the people who came rushing to help my son and I left me feeling so grateful.

I have never been more proud to be Canadian. Despite everything going on right now, it seems most people haven't changed and still would help anyone.

I did go and get X-rays, like I promised the people I would. My ankle was not broken, just badly sprained.

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank people for being there and helping me while I was sprawled out in the middle of Ouellette and couldn't get up.

It was one of the most eye-opening days of my life to see people in Windsor aid a complete stranger. Catherine Ann Goodman, Windsor
