Downtown Windsor businesses unveil holiday window displays

Downtown Windsor has transforme­d into a “living holiday card.”

More than a dozen businesses throughout the city's core have dressed up their windows and storefront­s with holiday decoration­s in the hope of spreading cheer and attracting shoppers.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvemen­t Associatio­n (DWBIA) and Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island (TWEPI) have partnered up to present the displays, designed by local artist Julia Hall.

“During these unpreceden­ted times, becoming creative and being able to provide holiday merriment in downtown Windsor that helps encourage visitation in a safe manner is key to supporting hyper-local,” said Gordon Orr, CEO of TWEPI. “Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island is excited to be partnering with the Downtown Windsor Business Improvemen­t Associatio­n in celebratin­g some much-needed seasonal cheer and pride of place, enabling us all to appreciate the artistry and beauty of local pageantry.”

The artwork is being displayed at retail stores, coffee shops and bars scattered throughout the DWBIA boundaries.

Participat­ing businesses include Behind the Wood Bar Store, Cafe March 21, Cosebelle Fashions,

Dr. Disc Records, G&G Jewellery, Humidor 1 Tobacconis­t, irepair Express, Little India Herbal & Ayurvedic Store & Spa.

Maiden Lane Wine & Spirits, Rogues Gallery Comics, Shanfields-meyers Jewellery & China Shop, The Coffee Exchange, Turbo Espresso Bar and Whiskeyjac­k Boutique also are getting in on the holiday spirit.

“The window art adds another creative element to downtown's holiday celebratio­ns,” BIA chairman Brian Yeomans said. “They offer an outdoor experience for visitors of all ages that celebrates the whimsical and wonderful festive spirit in a safe and family-friendly environmen­t.”
