Jeep appears set to introduce new SUV

- MATTHEW GUY

Jeep has said it will launch the Grand Wagoneer and the next-generation Grand Cherokee in the second and third quarters of 2021, respectively. But close inspection of a financial prospectus confirms another new SUV from the brand, one which will appear before the snow melts next year.

According to the text-heavy report, plans for an as yet unnamed three-row SUV are well underway. Specifically, “production of an allnew three-row full-size SUV will begin in the first quarter of 2021.”

What could it be? A Grand Cherokee stuffed with three rows of seats? Doubtful, given that a new iteration is on the horizon and the “all-new” designation of this unknown vehicle. Sticking another row of seats in a Wrangler also seems unlikely.

Those looking for a really good conspiracy theory can focus on the Gladiator, a machine that's more than capable of getting an SUVshaped body and an extra row of seats. The truck deploys a platform that is far more than just a Wrangler with a bed attached. This would also help Jeep amortize the Gladiator's cost over two models instead of one. It could be a macho and in-your-face alternative to the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot.

It is definitely worth noting that Jeep currently sells a three-row rig called the Commander, which is exclusive to the Chinese market.

And examples of this machine, rumoured to be heavily based on the current Cherokee, have been spotted in Michigan.
