Police seize illegal stun gun during raid
Charges have been laid against a Windsor man after police located a prohibited electrical weapon at his residence.
The 300,000-volt Muscle Man stun gun was seized as part of an investigation by the Windsor police drugs and guns unit (DIGS).
Police said the investigation began this month and involved officers obtaining a search warrant for an address. Tactical officers assisted in the raid.
Police have not disclosed the name of the suspect, but described him as a 45-year-old adult male from Windsor. The accused faces multiple charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon and four counts of possessing a weapon while prohibited.
He has since been released on a promise to appear in court.
Under the regulations on prohibited weapons in the Criminal Code of Canada, there is a category that refers to “any device that is designed to be capable of injuring, immobilizing or incapacitating a person or an animal by discharging an electrical charge produced by means of the amplification of the electrical current generated by a battery.”
Muscle Man stun guns are manufactured in Korea and come in a variety of strengths, typically powered by common nine-volt batteries.
Activating the weapon creates a small arc of electricity between its prongs. Close contact is required for the weapon to be effective.
Anyone with information about illegal weapons is encouraged to call the DIGS unit at 519-2556700, ext. 4361.
