Lasalle and Lakeshore launch surveys to assess future traffic demands
Lasalle and Lakeshore are seeking public feedback as they launch independent surveys of major roads.
The Town of Lasalle is working with Stantec Consulting Ltd. to complete a 10-year review of a study on Malden Road, while Lakeshore is looking at County Road 22 in a joint partnership with the County of Essex.
“The (Lasalle) project is focusing on Malden Road from the area north of the town's limits, southerly to Meagan Drive,” public works director Peter Marra stated in a news release.
“This update is looking at changes that have occurred since 2009. The project will make recommendations to accommodate existing and future traffic demands.”
So far, recommendations include widening Malden Road between the Cahill drain and Meagan Drive to three lanes with a two-way left-turn lane in the centre, placing a signal at both Reaume and Bouffard roads, installing new sidewalks and buffered bike lanes on both sides of Malden Road and a pedestrian crosswalk near the Cahill Drain.
A recorded presentation is available for review at www.placespeak. com/lasallemaldenroadproject. Comments can also be left on the online consultation platform.
To participate through PlaceSpeak, Marra said the participant will need to create a Placespeak account. This account only needs to be created once and then they will have access to other Town of Lasalle consultation projects.
To participate in writing, mail comments to Marra or Larry Silani, director of development and strategic initiatives, at the town offices.
Feedback will be accepted until Feb. 5.
The County of Essex and the Town of Lakeshore are undertaking a corridor study on County Road 22 between East Puce Road and Belle River Road, an important transportation link between the City of Windsor and the towns of Tecumseh and Lakeshore.
The study will evaluate options to improve the corridor to address the current and future traffic needs and to support Lakeshore's vision of the corridor.
To comment on this study, visit Placespeak.com/countyroad22design or the County of Essex website through Jan. 15.
