At least four people have been charged under the Reopening Ontario Act after an anti-lockdown demonstration and march in downtown Windsor on Sunday, say police.

“Further charges under the Reopening Ontario Act are being considered as additional individuals are identified,” the Windsor Police Service added in a statement Monday.

The charges came after dozens of people assembled at the Great Canadian Flag on Windsor's riverfront, then marched on Ouellette Avenue in defiance of provincial rules on gatherings.

Windsor police also noted that two tickets were issued due to violations of Ontario's Highway Traffic Act.

About 60 people took part in the protest, many without masks and physical distancing, carrying signs and shouting slogans in opposition to COVID-19 prevention measures, such as restrictions on businesses and religious services.

One participant carried a Canadian flag and a Donald Trump flag on the same pole.

“Healthy people don't wear masks,” protesters chanted.

Windsor police officers were in the area, and could be seen speaking with Currie Soulliere, a prominent Windsor organizer of anti-mask and anti-lockdown actions.

Joanna Gale, who identified herself as a local small business owner, was a rally participant.

“It's not just small business owners, it's regular everyday people,” Gale said. “We're just tired of this. We're tired of the lack of transparency and the reasoning behind (the lockdown).”

Gale owns Sculptedyou, a spa on Walker Road that offers spray-tanning, contouring, “non-invasive body sculpting” and other personal services.

Sculptedyou closed in the spring when the province first ordered non-essential businesses to shutter. Gale described the closing as “a financial disaster” for her. She said she laid off three employees, but has continued to book appointments for spa services.
