Wings, Lions make roster moves
The Detroit Red Wings roster was cut to 21 players on Tuesday as the club trimmed 22 players.
Detroit named its six-player taxi squad while assigning 11 players to the team's AHL Grand Rapids farm team, designating three other players and releasing another.
The Red Wings taxi squad will feature forwards Michael Rasmussen and Givani Smith, defencemen Dennis Cholowski and Gustav Lindstrom and goaltenders Kevin Boyle and Calvin Pickard.
Meanwhile, forwards Riley Barber, Kyle Criscuolo, Turner Elson, Taro Hirose, Chase Pearson, Evgeny Svechnikov and Dominic
Turgeon along with defencemen Joe Hicketts, Brian Lashoff and Dylan Mcilrath and goaltender Kaden Fulcher were assigned to Grand Rapids.
Forward Darren Helm, defencemen Christian Djoos, who was claimed off waivers on the weekend, and Jared Mcisaac were designated as non-roster and goaltender Pat Nagle was released from
his professional tryout.
LIONS CLAIM LINEBACKER
The Detroit Lions claimed linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton off waivers from the Washington Football Team on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old Hamilton was a sixth-round pick by Washington in the 2018 NFL draft out of the University of Alabama.
Over three seasons with Washington, the six-foot, 228-pound Hamilton appeared in 46 games with seven starts and had 89 tackles, two-and-a-half sacks, two forced fumbles, one interception and one fumble recovery.
LIONS CONTINUE INTERVIEWS
The Detroit Lions announced two more completed interviews on Tuesday.
Tennessee Titans offensive co-ordinator Arthur Smith interviewed for the head coaching post. The 38-year-old Smith has spent 10 seasons with the Titans working his way up from defensive quality control coach to offensive co-ordinator the past two seasons.
The Lions also interviewed Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds for the general manager's job. Dodds spent 10 seasons with Seattle before joining the Colts in 2017 and being promoted to assistant GM a year later.
