Photographer who climbed Ambassador Bridge facing charges in Ohio

- TREVOR WILHELM

A daredevil photographer who took self portraits from atop the Ambassador Bridge is now facing charges in Ohio for similar stunts in the United States.

Isaac Wright, 25, a U.S. army veteran who allegedly operates the Driftershoots social media accounts, was arrested in Arizona on an arrest warrant out of Cincinnati.

The photographer, who goes by the name Drift, is facing several charges there including burglary and trespassing.

“He did it at the Great American Tower, which is our highest highrise in the city of Cincinnati,” said Lt. Steve Saunders with the Cincinnati Police Department. “Then he also took pictures of himself, and we know he broke into the Great American Ball Park.”

It's unclear if Wright will also be charged in Detroit for climbing the Ambassador Bridge.

But Cincinnati police said they 've received calls from several other police forces about Wright. The Driftershoots accounts contain photos from high points in cities including Chicago, New York, Dallas, Atlanta and Houston.

On Sept. 13, 2020, Drift posted several photos taken from the top of the Ambassador Bridge to his Twitter account with the caption, “A night and sunrise between the US and Canada.”

Kris Grogan, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said at the time that the agency was working with American and Canadian authorities to investigate the Ambassador Bridge incident.

Wright wasn't the first person to allegedly climb the bridge to take pictures of himself.

Windsor musician Luke Heney, climbed a suspension cable on the Canadian side in September 2019. When he reached the top of the tower, he hung a banner promoting his band. When he climbed back down, Windsor police officers were waiting to arrest him.
