But organizers are pointing out that regular citizens can join the spirit of the games in running events.

There is currently space for community participants in a five-kilometre race on the evening of July 27, a 10 km race on the evening of July 28, and a 21 km half-marathon on the morning of July 30.

There's also room for more runners in a five-km cross-country race on the morning of July 27 and a 10 km cross-country race on the morning of July 28.

“We think this opportunity to run with and in support of our first responders will be a special memory for a lot of people,” said Jan Wilson, general manager of the games.

Anyone interested in registering can look up the Can-am Police-fire Games on raceroster.com. Registration fees will benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association.
