BBQ Bash Essentials

The dollar store is the perfect place to stock up on props for setting a fun table. Condiment bottles and tools (use spatulas from the dollar store as place cards) are inexpensive and creative additions.

Wrapping the table in gingham fabric is a great way to set an outdoor picnic tone for the party.

Set up stations for guests to help themselves. Ideas include ice-filled metal buckets of wine, soda and fruity drinks, a toppings station (condiments, guacamole, cheese, bacon) and even a DIY baked potato bar.

While you’ve got your grill fired up, throw on some corncobs or even pizza.

With unpredictable weather, make sure the inside and outside of your house are both set up for guests. IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR and we’re thrilled to hop out of the frying pan and into the fire, as in firing up the grill. Julie Albert and Lisa Gnat of BiteMeMore.com are gearing up for a fun and easy barbecue bash, complete with flame-grilled eats, frosty cocktails and red-hot tunes. Time to fire up your inner grill guru.

Grilling Tips

Preheat grill for 10 to 15 minutes. A preheated grill sears food on contact, giving it that caramelized grill flavour.

It’s easiest to clean a grill when it’s hot. Using a proper grill brush, clean off charred debris immediately after you’ve finished cooking. A clean grill ensures grill marks.

Resist the urge to poke or flip food too much. Give the food time to sear and develop a crust.

A thermometer is the most accurate way to ensure proper cooking. Remove food from the grill just before desired doneness, as it continues to cook while resting off the heat. While the meat is resting, it will reabsorb its juices.

You need only three tools plus a thermometer: a good grill brush, a sturdy spatula and long-handled tongs.
