Getting There
The main way to get to the islands is via the ferry crossing near Chacao. Take Highway 5 from Puerto Montt toward Pargua, about 62 km (38 miles). It's not necessary to book a ticket in advance: the boats shuttle back and forth until late at night and rarely are you left waiting more than a few minutes. The crossing takes roughly 25 minutes, and the price is included if you are on a bus (options like Queilen Buses and Cruz del Sur cost about $7,000 pesos [US$ 10] one-way). For cars, the ferry crossing is $12,000 pesos (US$ 17). Overall, the trip from Puerto Montt to Castro takes about 3.5 hours. LATAM Airlines also now offers flights to Castro, just a 20-minute hop from El Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt. Cómo llegar
La principal vía para acceder a las islas es en el transbordador, tomando la ruta 5 desde Puerto Montt hacia Pargua, unos 62 km. No hace falta reservar el pasaje de antemano: los barcos circulan hasta tarde y rara vez tendrás que esperar más de unos minutos. Cruzar a la isla principal lleva poco menos de media hora, y el precio está incluido si vas en autobús (algunas opciones como Queilen Buses y Cruz del Sur cuestan unos $7.000 pesos la ida). Para autos, el ferry cuesta $12.000 pesos. En total, el viaje desde Puerto Montt hasta Castro lleva unas 3 horas y media. LATAM Airlines ahora también ofrece vuelos a Castro, un viaje de tan solo 20 minutos desde el aeropuerto El Tepual en Puerto Montt.
