It's been said that when it comes to environmental issues, there are no real victories, only stays of execution. Conservation organizations have had some major accomplishments over the past two decades in the effort to save Chile's native forests. Nevertheless, “the fragrant, the silent, the tangled Chilean forest” of the poet Pablo Neruda is still under threat. It's time to go back to the table to fix the deficiencies in Chile's policies and legislation to ensure a sustainable future for the native forests, which are not just home to most of the country's flora and fauna but vital to the health of the land, air and water of all Chileans. In this edition we also spotlight the Chiloé Archipelago, whose peaceful landscapes, stun- ning nature, and fascinating culture make it one of the world's best travel destinations. Danish fly fishing correspondent Rasmus Ovesen gives us an inside look at the giant, chrome-colored trout to be enjoyed at Jurassic Lake in Argentine Patagonia. Among still other stories are articles about packrafting in the Patagonian Ice Fields, the nature photography of Jean Paul de la Harpe, trekking among araucaria trees, and learning how to leave no trace when on your outdoor expeditions in Patagonia. And we pay tribute to Antonio Horvath, the Chilean senator who passed away in May after a lifetime of devotion to the environment and culture of Patagonia Patagon Journal supports the call to rename the Carretera Austral in his honor.

Se suele decir que en temas medioambientales no hay victorias reales, sino tan solo prórrogas. Las organizaciones conservacionistas han conseguido algunos logros importantes en las dos últimas décadas en un esfuerzo por salvar los bosques nativos de Chile. Sin embargo, como mostramos en esta edición, “el fragante, el silencioso, el enmarañado bosque chileno” del poeta Pablo Neruda sigue bajo amenaza. Es hora de ponerse manos a la obra y arreglar las deficiencias en las políticas y la legislación de Chile para garantizar un futuro sustentable para los bosques autóctonos, que no sólo son el hogar de la mayor parte de la flora y fauna del país, sino que también son vitales para la salud de la tierra, el agua y el aire de todos los chilenos. En esta edición también destacamos el archipiélago de Chiloé, cuyos paisajes tranquilos, imponente naturaleza y cultura fascinante lo convierten en uno de los mejores destinos de viaje del mundo. El corresponsal de pesca con mosca danés, Rasmus Ovesen, nos entrega una mirada experta sobre la gigante trucha cromada que se puede encontrar en Jurassic Lake, en la Patagonia argentina.
