Record Drug Haul
Police in central China’s Hubei Province have detained six people for trafficking 92 kg of heroin intended to be sold in northwest China.
It is the largest amount of heroin seized in Hubei in 10 years, a police spokesperson in Wuhan, the provincial capital, said on August 23.
Wuhan police received a tip-off that a large amount of drugs would be smuggled into Hubei and neighboring Hunan Province from abroad in August.
Four of the suspects, who arrived in Wuhan on August 11, were put under surveillance and two days later, one of them was nabbed with 22 kg of heroin in a suitcase in a building materials market.
On August 13, three more, including their leader, named only as Liu, were arrested from a hotel.
Liu confessed that two other accomplices were carrying more heroin and the information led to the capture of the pair on August 15. They were found to be carrying 70 kg of heroin and 6 kg of methamphetamine.
