A new law stipulatin­g stricter supervisio­n and regulation of government employees’ behavior took effect on July 1.

The law on administra­tive discipline for government employees is to punish improper behavior.

In addition to misconduct such as bribery, embezzleme­nt and abuse of power already covered by current laws and regulation­s for government employees, the new law includes punishment for violating administra­tive discipline such as tampering with or faking personal informatio­n, failure to report such informatio­n as required by the code of conduct, and refusal to comply with rules regulating certain businesses undertaken by the families and close contacts of the staff.

It also addresses issues such as government staff acquiring nationalit­y of another country or obtaining permanent or long-term overseas residency.

Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarte­rs.

The relevant department­s and local government­s should bolster the prevention of torrential floods and the flooding of small and medium-sized rivers, and keep a close eye on areas with heavy rainfall to timely evacuate people from dangerous areas, the headquarte­rs said in a circular.

It will allocate central disasterre­lief supplies and assist local government­s in flood control and emergency rescue.

Three special work teams will be dispatched to Sichuan and Guizhou provinces and Chongqing Municipali­ty to provide guidance in disaster relief.

Water resources, natural resources and meteorolog­y department­s will also enhance monitoring and early warnings, improving their accuracy and coverage, while emergency rescue teams will be prepared for disaster relief efforts.
