The 2013 Turkish Film Festival in China, kicks off on Aug 15 and will last six days. The festival will screen seven films, including Can, a World Cinema Special Jury Prize Dramatic winner at Sundance in 2012, and Night of Silence, which took the top prize for teen films at Berlin last year. Can takes a sharp glance at Turkish culture as it follows a couple who cannot have children naturally and try to find one by illegal means. Night of Silence is a family drama between a young wife and her older husband. The films will be released at Broadway Cinematheque MOMA in Beijing from Aug 15 to 21, and Aug 19 to 25 in Xi’an Zhuque Theater. Other titles include The Particle, The Girl with Red Scarf, My Father and My Son, A Handful of Sea and Let This Be the Last Time. Many lovers gathered in The Capital Indoor Stadium on Aug 13 to spend their Magpie Festival enjoying the 2013 Love Song Concert for Chinese Valentine’s Day. Audiences were moved by classical love songs from Taiwan singers Christine Fan and Jam Hsiao, Chinese mainland singer Zhang Liangying and the pop duo Phoenix Legend. The concert’s sponsor Jiangsu King’s Luck Brewery, started a contest on the same day to encourage netizens to write their love stories, and will help some to realize their dreams with prizes totaling 500,000 yuan ($81,700). U-right Media has become the first Chinese company focused on product placement to be listed on the New Third Board, a national share-transfer system for small and medium-sized enterprises, the company announced on Aug 8. CEO Yu Wenhao founded the company in 2009, but has been working on product placement and advertising for 14 years. The New Third Board was initiated in 2006 as an experimental platform to facilitate financing for China’s non-listed small, promising high-tech enterprises in Beijing’s Zhongguancun Science Park, allowing them to transfer shares and raise funds for specific purposes.
