Sculptor goes solo

Zheng Baocheng is presenting a solo exhibition of more than 20 sculptures. Zheng is a master craftsman of boxwood carving, a traditiona­l art in Zhejiang province. Besides inheriting the traditiona­l styles, Zheng has adopted modern aesthetics in his creations. He has gone further to work with rock, bronze and glass sculpture, as well as ink and watercolor paintings. Zheng has turned to contempora­ry art and created in recent years a series of works about consumeris­m and materialis­m. 10 am-6 pm, until Sept 10. The antagonism between two sexes has accompanie­d the whole civilizati­on process. The play illustrate­s the difference between men and women with examples in modern daily life, and traces the sexual conflicts back to the primitive age, when men hunted and women collected. American legal profession­al and writer Jeffrey Toobin and Chinese media veteran Cai Chongda will discuss the importance of non-fictional writing and share their expertise at a public lecture in Fangsuo Commune. Hong Kong-based gourmet writer Chua Lam will be at Fangsuo Commune this Saturday to share his new book, which is about ways to enjoy delicious food and a happy life. It will be a lecture filled with humor and wisdom, just like the TV image of this 72-year-old man with gray hair and a smiling chubby face. He has made a household name for himself with his popular TV shows showcasing his worldwide travels, enjoying delicacy while chatting with young beauties. He has published more than 200 books since the 1980s.
