Well done, CE and police

-

Chief Executive (CE) Leung Chun-ying attended a community forum in Kwun Tong on Sunday, a week after interacting with local residents in Tin Shui Wai. The visits demonstrated Leung’s determination to hear public opinions directly by talking to local residents face to face in order to fine-tune his governing efforts. The CE has maintained his diligent and people-friendly work style since he took over the helm of the SAR government a year ago. Unfortunately he was harassed by radical opposition groups when he visited local communities on both occasions and could not interact with local residents without disruption. The police handled the chaotic situation according to existing protocol and quickly restored order. They deserve public support as much as the CE does.

In his speech on March 25, 2012 when he won the CE Election, Leung said he would continue to listen to popular views by sitting down with members of the public and taking notes while talking with them like he did during the election campaign. He kept his promise and visited two neighborhoods on the last two Sundays despite fierce harassment by radical opposition groups, proving his diligent and people-friendly work style has not changed and he has stepped up efforts to interact with Hong Kong residents more and better so as to respond to growing problems facing society with effective policies. He answered the questions local residents are most concerned about despite the noise made by opposition hecklers on Sunday.

Leung was harassed by opposition troublemakers during his recent visits to local neighborhoods and on both occasions the ill-motivated protesters clashed with Leung’s supporters on purpose to create fodder for media vultures. Some protesters attempted to cross the street outside the school, where Leung was meeting with local residents, and caused some hairy traffic moments against police advice. They also assaulted some supporters of the CE like they did the previous Sunday but were quickly apprehended by police officers tasked with maintaining order in the area. The CE and Hong Kong Police Force both did an excellent job and deserve our support in the days to come.
