Low bridge killed mo­torist

A mo­torist broke his neck and died af­ter at­tempt­ing to ride a tri­cy­cle through a 1.5-me­ter­high tun­nel in Zhengzhou on Nov 30. The man, in his 30s, was try­ing to pass un­der the Bei­jing-Guangzhou rail­way bridge to the east of Balangzhai vil­lage. A larger tun­nel nearby was closed due to be­ing wa­ter­logged. Passersby called the po­lice and an am­bu­lance, but the man was al­ready dead when med­i­cal per­son­nel ar­rived. The de­ceased has not been iden­ti­fied. A 60-year-old fugi­tive who was on the run for 30 years was de­tained in Huizhou city on Nov 29. The man, sur­named Fang, was sen­tenced to life in prison in 1986, but es­caped prison a year later. While on the run, Fang got mar­ried and be­came a fa­ther of five. How­ever, he was so poor he gave his el­dest daugh­ter to his brother, Two neigh­bors who were once on good terms have en­tered into a feud be­cause each be­lieved the other was bringing bad luck to their re­spec­tive house­holds. The feud be­gan af­ter one of the el­derly women, sur­named Wu, hung a picture of a dragon on her door to ward off evil spir­its. How­ever, her neigh­bor Zhang be­lieved this would bring bad luck to her fam­ily, so she hung a picture of a tiger on her door. The back and forth has con­tin­ued for al­most a year, with each hang­ing dif­fer­ent items, in­clud­ing a pair of scis­sors and a mir­ror, above their doors. A 30-year-old man in Chengdu has been de­tained for al­legedly us­ing a fake kid­nap­ping video to black­mail his girl­friend’s daugh­ter. The man, sur­named Zhou, had a 44-year-old girl­friend, sur­named Jin, from Shaanxi prov­ince. Early last month, Zhou al­legedly used the video he had faked to black­mail Jin’s daugh­ter out of 7,000 yuan ($1,000). Po­lice de­tained Zhou on Nov 29.
