Low bridge killed motorist

A motorist broke his neck and died after attempting to ride a tricycle through a 1.5-meterhigh tunnel in Zhengzhou on Nov 30. The man, in his 30s, was trying to pass under the Beijing-Guangzhou railway bridge to the east of Balangzhai village. A larger tunnel nearby was closed due to being waterlogge­d. Passersby called the police and an ambulance, but the man was already dead when medical personnel arrived. The deceased has not been identified. A 60-year-old fugitive who was on the run for 30 years was detained in Huizhou city on Nov 29. The man, surnamed Fang, was sentenced to life in prison in 1986, but escaped prison a year later. While on the run, Fang got married and became a father of five. However, he was so poor he gave his eldest daughter to his brother, Two neighbors who were once on good terms have entered into a feud because each believed the other was bringing bad luck to their respective households. The feud began after one of the elderly women, surnamed Wu, hung a picture of a dragon on her door to ward off evil spirits. However, her neighbor Zhang believed this would bring bad luck to her family, so she hung a picture of a tiger on her door. The back and forth has continued for almost a year, with each hanging different items, including a pair of scissors and a mirror, above their doors. A 30-year-old man in Chengdu has been detained for allegedly using a fake kidnapping video to blackmail his girlfriend’s daughter. The man, surnamed Zhou, had a 44-year-old girlfriend, surnamed Jin, from Shaanxi province. Early last month, Zhou allegedly used the video he had faked to blackmail Jin’s daughter out of 7,000 yuan ($1,000). Police detained Zhou on Nov 29.
