China has become the biggest trading partner of Russia, and an important source of foreign investment in the country, while Russia is one of China’s main sources of energy and high technology.
Last year, China imported more than 40 million metric tons of crude oil from Russia, a 28 percent increase from the previous year.
China’s imports of Russian industrial equipment and high-tech products grew by more than 32 percent during the same period.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Russia, and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two nations.
China and Russia have actively promoted cooperation in various fields.
During Premier Li Keqiang’s recent official visit to Russia, the two sides vowed to enhance cooperation.
They also agreed to align China’s Belt and Road Initiative with the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union.
The two countries already work closely in a number of fields, including investment, energy, highspeed railway construction, aviation and infrastructure development.
The construction of the eastern section of the ChinaRussia natural gas pipeline, with the first deliveries of gas scheduled for 2018, is among the most important projects aimed at bolstering cooperation between China and Russia.
