Ex-of­fi­cial gets 12 years for graft

Jiang Shan, former Party chief of Chuzhou in Anhui province, has been sen­tenced to 12 years in prison for abuse of power and ac­cept­ing bribes. The Wuhu In­ter­me­di­ate Peo­ple’s Court said Jiang, 54, caused losses of more than 168 mil­lion yuan ($24 mil­lion) due to his han­dling of land-trans­fer fees, and he ac­cepted bribes to­tal­ing more than 4.33 mil­lion yuan. Jiang was fined 1.4 mil­lion yuan and his il­le­gal gains will be con­fis­cated, ac­cord­ing to the court. The de­fen­dant lodged an ap­peal.
