Takata airbags re­call plans filed by BMW

BMW filed the re­call plans for seven mod­els, in­volv­ing a to­tal of 193,611 im­ported and lo­cally man­u­fac­tured cars, for de­fec­tive Takata airbags be­gin­ning in Au­gust 2017. The countr y ’s qual­ity watch­dog an­nounced last week that the Ger­man brand will re­call 168,861 im­porte”d BMW 1 Se­ries, 3 Se­ries, X1, X3, X5, X6, M3, as well as 24,750 lo­cally-man­u­fac­tured BMW 3 Se­ries and X1 made be­tween 2005 and 2011. Th­ese ve­hi­cles’ airbags for front pas­sen­gers may spray metal shards upon de­ploy­ment, which could po­ten­tially cause in­jur y. The au­tomaker will re­place the faulty parts free of charge.
