Committee to unite military, civilians

President Xi Jinping will chair a newly establishe­d top-level committee that aims to better unite the military and civilians, according to Xinhua News Agency. The Central Civil-Military Integratio­n Developmen­t Committee, officially approved on Sunday, is set to make key decisions, hold discussion­s and coordinate on major issues in the implementa­tion of this strategy and direct any in-depth integratio­n. Beijing residence certificat­es, grew marginally by 0.1 percent to 21.7 million last year, the city statistics bureau said on Sunday. Beijing’s registered urban population stood at 18.8 million last year, more than 86 percent of the total permanent population, according to Pang Jiangqian, deputy head of the bureau. Residents aged between 15 and 59 constitute­d 73.7 percent of the total; those aged 14 and under 10.3 percent; and the over-60s accounted for 16 percent. Beijing aims to cap its population at 23 million by 2020. province on Saturday elected 40 new national lawmakers after the ousting of 45 deputies for electoral fraud last year. The 40 were chosen from 48 candidates at the eighth session of the 12th Liaoning Provincial People’s Congress. A total of 583 deputies to the provincial legislatur­e voted at the session, according to a statement of the congress. Aft- er scrutiny, the results will be submitted to the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, the country’s top legislatur­e, for approval. In September, 45 NPC deputies from Liaoning were removed from their positions after the discovery of electoral fraud in 2013.
