Wolfgang Bernhard’s exit may hurt Daimler hard

Wolfgang Bernhard, head of Daimler trucks and buses, will leave the company with immediate effect at his own request, the maker of the vehicles said on Feb 10, confirming earlier media reports by magazine Der Spiegel and German news agency DPA. Bernhard’s contract was set to expire in February 2018. His resignatio­n comes unexpected­ly. A decision on extending his contract was to be made in the coming weeks, according to DPA. Bernhard, 56, had been seen as a successor to Daimler’s current CEO Dieter Zetsche.

Wang Yongdong named Microsoft senior VP

Microsoft announced the appointmen­t of Microsoft (Asia) Internet Engineerin­g Dean Wang Yongdong, as a global senior vice-president. Wang joined Microsoft in 2009 and was the founder of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group in Beijing. He took on the additional role of managing director of Applicatio­ns & Services Group East Asia, which is rapidly growing into a major developmen­t hub for Microsoft Applicatio­ns and Services Group. Wang has a PhD in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
