Administrative, judicial reforms for IP system

-

Intellectual property is becoming an increasingly popular issue at this year’s National People’s Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Here, China Daily shares some of the NPC deputies’ and CPPCC members’ opinions:

“With the development of e-commerce and technological innovation, we have seen a growing number of new problems emerging in patent protection. Thus we need to explore a swift mechanism for protecting intellectual property and make full use of administrative enforcement to create a friendly environment for mass entrepreneurship and innovation.”

He Zhimin,

deputy commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office

“As digital content products exported from China are drawing increasing attention in overseas markets, piracy has become a standout issue in the sector. I hope that our country can give support in many aspects, such as government policy, legislation and diplomacy. The efforts to help Chinese companies to deal with piracy and infringements abroad may include hosting symposiums, founding service platforms, setting up special funds and increasing international cooperation and exchanges.”

Ma Huateng,

chairman and CEO of Tencent

“Targeting frequent online piracy, I suggest copyright administrations and cultural market enforcement officials maintain consistent supervision and crack down on piracy with an iron fist. A regular copyright enforcement and inspection mechanism should be developed, involving multiple organizations including legislators, police and copyright and culture administrators.”

Nie Zhenning,

director of the Taofen Foundation

“Any forms of intangible cultural heritage, whether a type of opera, an ancient custom, craftsmanship or a specialty taste, are all part of our Chinese cultural treasury. Promoting intangible cultural heritage helps to meet the demand for aesthetic education. Everyone throughout society needs aesthetic education, rather than just teenaged students.”

Li Yansheng,

painter at the China National Academy of Painting
