Belt and Road brings music to district with 10 countries involved

Starting March 25, more than 700 musicians and artists from home and abroad will perform at Shenzhen Concert Hall and Shenzhen Children’s Palace in Futian.

On March 25, musicians from 10 countries — including Albania, Romania, Egypt, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Vietnam and Thailand — will join the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra to perform for audiences at Shenzhen Concert Hall.

World-renowned orchestras and troupes, such as the Indian Bollywood Singing and Dancing Group, Canadian Brass and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, will perform themed concerts over the following three weeks.

Xavier de Maistre, a French musician, will host a solo harp concert at Shenzhen Concert Hall on April 8, while Adam Kosmieja, a well-known pianist from Poland, will hold his solo concert at the Shenzhen Grand Theater on April 14.

Chinese music will also play an important role in the concert series, with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra holding a concert at Shenzhen Concert Hall on March 28. The China National Symphony Orchestra will perform at Shenzhen Concert Hall on April 16.

This concert series is a part of the Shenzhen Belt and Road International Music Festival.

“The festival is aimed at enhancing communication and friendship among 64 countries along the Belt and Road by the bridge of music,” said Zhang Heyun, head of the city’s culture, sports and tourism administration.

According to Zhang, all of the performers taking part in the festival are from Belt and Road countries, and their performances will be closely connected to the history and culture of the Silk Road.

The lowest ticket prices for the 16 concerts will range from 50 yuan ($7.4) to 80 yuan, while the highest prices will be less than 1,000 yuan. All of the concerts will have at least 50 percent of the tickets priced lower than 180 yuan. The low ticket prices are a result of government subsidies aimed at encouraging public participation.
