Deputy head of the central government’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong urged the city’s youth to take a clear stand against “Hong Kong independence” — as well as to uphold their love for the country and Hong Kong.
Chen Dong, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, made the remarks during his visits. He was meeting representatives from youth groups, including the Hong Kong United Youth Association, the Y.Elites Association and Federation of New Territories Youth.
Chen also urged the young leaders to protect Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability.
He encouraged youth groups to continue to engage, serve and help young people in the city with passion, sincerity and creativity.
With the country’s rising international influence, Hong Kong is at a wonderful position to tap into development opportunities brought about by the country’s robust development. This includes the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Belt and Road Initiative.
Chen said he hoped Hong Kong youth could accomplish their goals under the great rejuvenation of the nation.
During the visit, Chen had discussions with more than 100 young leaders. He also visited the Youth Square in Chai Wan and the villages near the boundary of Liantang Checkpoint.
Chen was appointed to the post on Feb 28.
