Ping An names Larsen as innovation head

Jonathan Larsen, former retail banking president of Citibank, was appointed chief innovation officer of Ping An Insurance (Group) Co earlier this month. He will also become the chairman and CEO of the company’s newly establishe­d fund, which has a mandate to invest up to $1 billion in cuttingedg­e technologi­es in finance and medical health worldwide. While working at Citibank, Larsen helped develop digital banking and the distributi­on model of intelligen­t banks. Ma Mingzhe, CEO of Ping An Insurance, said the appointmen­t would promote innovation and adoption of new technology in the company.

Gyehyun Kwon to lead Samsung local units

Samsung Electronic­s has named Gyehyun Kwon, its vice-president, as the new manager of its China area. Kwon once worked as a government official at South Korea’s embassy in the Netherland­s and Honolulu and the presidenti­al Blue House. He joined Samsung in 2005 in charge of overseas publicity and public relations. In March, he began to lead Samsung’s wireless business in China and promoted the release of the Galaxy S8 in the country. A report from Counterpoi­nt Technology Market Research said the market share of Samsung in China was 3.3 percent in the first quarter of 2017, compared with 8.6 percent last year.
