650-strong Hong Kong delegation to visit Guizhou province
A delegation of 650 people from Hong Kong will visit Guizhou to strengthen ties between the special administrative region and the southwestern province.
Activities planned include a special train ride to Guizhou for the Hong Kong delegation, which will include representatives from different sectors. They will also sign economic agreements with authorities in the province.
The delegation will learn about the recent development of Guizhou, chief of Hong Kong Celebrations Association (New Territories) Cheung Hok-ming told a launch ceremony on Monday.
He said the special Hong Kong-Guizhou tour was expected to boost trade, business and other relations between the province and the SAR.
The trip has received support from the SAR government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the SAR, the association is planning more than 300 events involving more than 2,000 organizations, explained Cheung.
Lin Wu, deputy director of the Liaison Office, and Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po officiated at the ceremony at the Heung Yee Kuk Building in Sha Tin.
Kong Tak-ho, chairman of the Hong Kong Industrial and Commercial Association — who heads the delegation — said delegates would discuss mutually beneficial issues with Guizhou officials.
More concrete plans are expected soon, added Kong. These include investment and business exhibitions. Both regions plan to sign agreements aimed at helping their commercial, education and social sectors.
Kong advised the SAR’s industry leaders to exploit the Belt and Road Initiative and tap into the mainland’s rapidly growing markets. He was upbeat about the benefits arising from the trip to Guizhou.
