Intl cultural industries fair showcases district’s treasures

Local govt head calls for greater developmen­t of area’s creative businesses

During the 13 th China (S h e n z h e n ) In t e r n a t i o n a l Cultural Industries Fair held in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, from May 11 to 15, the coastal city’s Futian district held 30 special events at the main venue and 10 subvenues.

The Futian section of the event, with the theme “creativity refines life; culture leads the future”, promoted the district’s cultural industry to the world.

Gao Sheng yuan, head of the Futian distric t government, visited the distric t ’s pavilion at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on May 11. He called for exhibitors to develop Futian’s cultural and creative industry. Testing a virtual reality headset at a company’s booth, Gao said the combinatio­n of modern technology and traditiona­l industries creates endless possibilit­ies and opportunit­ies.

He added that Futian is determined to seek developmen­t through innovation. The district is home to many design firms and the industry strives to become a benchmark in the global arena.

Centering on new materials, new technology and new thinking , the Sino-Finnish Design Park in Futian put forward its design 4.0 concept, which it expects to become a standard in the local design industry.

During the fair, over 20 guests from different industries around the globe were invited to discuss cooperatio­n and product and service innovation in the design industry at the Sino-Finnish Design Park subvenue.

A group of well-known design institutio­ns from Germany, the United States and Denmark with studios in Futian were introduced at the Tianmian City of Design subvenue.

Artworks exhibited at the 2017 Impression Poland Poster Exhibition were displayed at the Futian Commerce Space.

At T-Park SZ-HK Film Creative Park, residents enjoyed a Sino-United States multimedia and digital image training session and an open-air film screening.

Outstandin­g works from the 120-year-old La Biennale di Venezia arts organizati­on were also presented.

The “tour of art, fashion and life” co-organized by the Italian Fashion Associatio­n offered residents easy access to internatio­nal fashion trends.

At the third Internatio­nal Shenzhen Auto Culture Festival, 200 of the most loved sports cars, vintage cars and motorbikes from around the globe gathered in Futian, creating an automobile feast for audiences.

During the cultural industries fair, creative design projects with proprietar­y intellec- tual property rights were promoted to showcase Futian’s intelligen­t manufactur­ing.

Shenzhen ESUN Exhibition presented a mobile museum by employing 3-D scanning and display technology.

Shenzhen SunupCG showcased interactiv­e and entertainm­ent camera devices that enable users to quickly blend into various types of interestin­g background­s.

Ya n r u i C u l t u r e Me d i u m presented a new applicatio­n model for VR technology in constructi­on, which, with higher rendering speeds, can better provide real-time VR scenes, thus facilitati­ng more in-depth communicat­ion between architects and clients.

Treasures that best represent craftsmen’s spirit were shown at the Futian pavilion and other subvenues. Among them were blue amber from the Dominican Republic, intricate artifacts and enamel vessels from the imperial cour t of the Q ing D ynasty (1644-1911).

Fu t i a n h a s s e e n r o b u s t growth in its cultural and creative industry, with its added value growing 8.7 percent yearon-year to 31.28 billion yuan ($4.6 billion) in 2016.

Creative design — mostly constructi­on, decoration, fashion and industrial design — accounted for over 70 percent of the added value of the cultural and creative industry.

Futian is home to 25 of Shenzhen’s top 100 cultural and creative enterprise­s.
