Hit-and-run suspect ID’d as police officer

The suspect in a hit-andrun rampage has been identified as a police officer, authorities said on Saturday. Police received a report about a car plowing into pedestrians in a neighborhood in Jing jiang at 8:27 pm on Friday. Four victims died in hospital, while nine others were said to be in stable condition. The suspect, 57, was caught in nearby Taixing, where he serves at a police bureau. Police said he had taken poison in an attempt to commit suicide and is in a coma.
