Johnson opts to remain in Tampa

-

Tyler Johnson is staying with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

GM Steve Yzerman said the free-agent winger signed a seven-year, $35 million deal on Monday.

The 26-year-old Johnson had 19 goals and 26 assists in 66 games last season. He was tied for third on the Lightning in goals and powerplay goals (six), and was fifth on the team with 45 points.

Johnson has 89 goals, 122 assists and 102 penalty minutes in 308 games over five seasons, all with Tampa Bay. Now the Lightning will focus on signing forward Ondrej Palat, who inked a three-year, $10 million contract before the 2014-15 season.
