John­son opts to re­main in Tampa

Tyler John­son is stay­ing with the Tampa Bay Light­ning.

GM Steve Yz­er­man said the free-agent winger signed a seven-year, $35 mil­lion deal on Mon­day.

The 26-year-old John­son had 19 goals and 26 as­sists in 66 games last sea­son. He was tied for third on the Light­ning in goals and pow­er­play goals (six), and was fifth on the team with 45 points.

John­son has 89 goals, 122 as­sists and 102 penalty min­utes in 308 games over five sea­sons, all with Tampa Bay. Now the Light­ning will fo­cus on sign­ing for­ward On­drej Palat, who inked a three-year, $10 mil­lion con­tract be­fore the 2014-15 sea­son.
