3,918 web­sites shut down in Q2

A to­tal of 3,918 web­sites were shut down by China’s in­ter­net watch­dogs from April to June, the Cy­berspace Ad­min­is­tra­tion of China said in a state­ment on Satur­day. The web­sites in­cluded those pub­lish­ing con­tent that jeop­ar­dized na­tional se­cu­rity, and those that spread vi­o­lence, vul­gar­ity or un­grounded ru­mors. po­lice re­ceived re­ports from tourists who said their prop­erty was stolen while watch­ing the cer­e­mony, a pop­u­lar ac­tiv­ity. Po­lice said gang mem­bers co­or­di­nated since May to steal var­i­ous items from view­ers near the square.
